About the Author
Award winning photographer and author of three inspiring books, Mary La (formerly Mary Landberg) is a joyful hospice RN who carries a camera in her nursing bag. She offers free portraiture to hospice families, which led to the publishing of her heartwarming book of hospice photography and stories in “Enduring Love: Inspiring Stories of Love and Wisdom at the End of Life.” She is at work on her next hospice portraits book, “The Last I Love You.”
Mary holds a Bachelor of Science in exercise science and a Master’s in Public Health, with a focus in community health program development and implementation. For the last thirty years she has been teaching, coaching, and promoting healthy lifestyles to diverse multicultural audiences in community, corporate, and collegiate environments.
Her writing and photographic adventures began when she was inspired to go back to school at the age of forty-three to earn credentials in nursing. While in nursing school, Mary published “Fear Means Go,” a book of photography and mind opening poetry, which reflects an inspiring ten year journey of reflection, self-discovery, and evolution.
When Mary learned about the cathartic powers of surreal conceptual portraiture, she created “The Great Unlearning: A unique memoir of inspiring self portraits and incredible true stories of transcendence.”
As a former triathlete, personal chef, and health educator, she can be found speaking to groups of curious open-minded people, running circles around people half her age at the gym, lost for hours in her garden and kitchen, or playing classical guitar with her beloved partner Grant.
